Fuel Up Before or After Your Film

A great movie deserves a great meal and Downtown Windsor has plenty of options whether you’re looking for something quick before your screening or planning a proper dinner afterward.

Short on time between films? These are great options when you want to grab a bite and get back to the festival without missing the opening creditsGrab something quick and delicious at:

  • AutoCity Hamburgers & Poutine — A local favourite for a casual bite when you’re looking to fuel up without slowing down your WIFF schedule.
  • Smoke’s Poutinerie — Because sometimes the perfect movie-night meal is a big serving of loaded poutine.

Make a Reservation

If you’re planning to turn your WIFF outing into a full evening, make dinner part of the experience. Nina recommends these Downtown Windsor favourites:

  • Cucina 360 – Traditional Italian fine dining. Carefully selected menu choices using the freshest ingredients.
  • The River Room Restaurant – Mediterranean cuisine with stunning views of the Detroit Skyline
  • The Loose Goose – Where great food meets great friends. This Downtown Windsor staple is the perfect stop for pub style food with their signature dish being chicken wings with over 60 different sauces, dry rubs and blends to choose from.
  • Thyme Kitchen – where the menu is chef-driven, locally inspired and proud to be in the heart of Windsor.  Offering gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options, a variety of local and organic beverages, and a craft cocktail menu.  If you need a quick grab and go option, the prepared meal section and specialty coffees are where it’s at!

Local tip: Reservations are recommended, especially during WIFF when downtown restaurants can get busy. Plan your dinner around your screening time and give yourself plenty of time to enjoy your meal.

Sip Your Way Through Downtown

Whether you’re looking for a morning coffee, an afternoon pick-me-up or somewhere to unwind after the credits roll, there are plenty of ways to keep the WIFF experience going.

Local Cafés

Start your day downtown with a locally brewed coffee or take a break between screenings at:

  • Café March 21
  • The Coffee Exchange
  • Verde Café
  • Paradiso

These are perfect spots to slow down, catch up with friends, plan your next screening or simply enjoy a little downtime between films.

Go-To Drinks

And when the movie is over? Keep the night going with a drink at one of Nina’s go-to spots:

  • Maiden Lane Wine & Cocktail Bar – Expertly mixed cocktails, unique wines, craft beers, and ciders, all paired with simple but quality snacks, a stellar playlist, and chill vibes. (photo credit: Dax Melmer)

  • ekō – ekō offers an intimate space focused on high-fidelity sound, craft cocktails, and a ramen and sakana menu.
  • Tqla – brings bold Mexican flavours and vibrant nightlife energy to the city’s core. Open for lunch, dinner, and late-night bites

Whether you’re debriefing your favourite film over cocktails or meeting friends for a pre-screening drink, these spots make it easy to add a little nightlife to your WIFF adventure.

Discover Downtown’s Arts & Culture

WIFF is all about storytelling, creativity and culture — so why not continue that experience outside the theatre?

Explore WIFF Alley

No WIFF adventure is complete without a stop at WIFF Alley.

Located between the festival’s downtown venues, WIFF Alley celebrates the connection between film, art and the community. Take a stroll through the space and see how WIFF has become part of Downtown Windsor’s cultural landscape. It’s also a great spot to snap a photo and officially document your WIFF like a local adventure.

Visit Chimczuk Museum

Have some time? Head to Chimczuk Museum and discover the stories, people and places that have shaped Windsor Essex.

It’s an easy way to add a little history to your day — and a great option if you’re looking for something to do beyond the theatre.

Discover Art Windsor-Essex

Art lovers won’t want to miss Art Windsor-Essex, where you can explore exhibitions featuring artists and stories from the region and beyond.

And don’t forget to check out the Urban Art Market, located inside Art Windsor-Essex, for unique finds and locally inspired art.

Take a Walk Through Windsor Sculpture Park

If you have a little more time between screenings, head down to the river and explore the Windsor Sculpture Park.

Along the Detroit River, the park features an impressive collection of large-scale sculptures against one of the city’s best backdrops.

It’s the perfect way to get some fresh air between films — and an excellent reminder that Windsor’s art scene extends well beyond the gallery walls.

Eyes On Art

Download the FREE Eyes On Art Digital Pass and discover the incredible public art, murals and sculptures throughout Downtown Windsor — perfect for exploring before a screening, between films or after the credits roll.

Shop Local While You’re Downtown

Why not squeeze in a little shopping while you’re in the neighbourhood?

Nina’s downtown shopping picks include:

WhiskeyJack Boutique

Stop by Whiskeyjack Boutique for a curated selection of fashion, accessories and unique finds. It’s a great place to browse while exploring the downtown core.

Urban Art Market

Located inside Art Windsor-Essex, the Urban Art Market is a great place to find locally created art, gifts and one-of-a-kind pieces. It’s also an easy addition to your WIFF itinerary if you’re already visiting the gallery.

Chimczuk Museum Gift Shop

Don’t forget to browse the Chimczuk Museum Gift Shop while you’re there. Pick up a souvenir or find a unique gift inspired by the region.

WIFF Gift Shop

Of course, no WIFF adventure is complete without a little festival merchandise. Stop by the WIFF Gift Shop, located next to the Capitol Theatre, to pick up something to commemorate your festival experience.

Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market

If you’re downtown on Saturday October 31st, make time for the Downtown Windsor Farmers Market — the last one of the 2026 season!

Browse local vendors, discover handmade goods and find something delicious to take home — all while supporting local makers and entrepreneurs.
