Detroit River Route

Along the banks of the historic Detroit River, paddle to and explore Peche Island, a naturalized park with trails which also features the ruins of whisky baron Hiram Walker’s summer home.

Nearby is Kayak Cove, a popular launchpoint for water adventures, situated near Sandpoint Beach in east Windsor.

Witness the stunning cityscape of both Detroit and Windsor downtowns while viewing the busiest border crossing in North America, the Ambassador Bridge, overhead.Β  At its narrowest width, the river separates the two cities by only 1.5 miles (or 2.5 km).

Heading downriver, enjoy waterfront vistas of LaSalle and Amherstburg, coupled with a string of historic islands along the way, including the famous Boblo.

Venture into River Canard, offering easy paddling on slow moving water amidst tranquil marshes.Β  The River Canard Canoe Co. also provides classes, tours and seasonal experiences.
