Twelve Bottles to Open TONIGHT!

Original blog by Tourism Windsor Essex

This Saturday, February 24th is “Open That Bottle Night”. Celebrated on the last Saturday of February every year, Open That Bottle Night is about creating memories and sharing special moments over a bottle you’ve been saving for a special occasion. Consider this your official memo: that special occasion is TODAY!

When you think of opening a bottle, your mind probably goes to a bottle of wine. While we do have many local EPIC Winery options we also have beer and whisky bottles that need to be opened and shared and a few non-alcoholic options to ensure everyone is able to partake in Open That Bottle Night.

EPIC Wineries

You can explore EPIC Wineries throughout the year with an EPIC Digital Wine Tasting Pass! Treat your taste buds to award-winning bold reds and crisp whites in YQG, home of the Lake Erie North Shore wine region. Whether you’ve had a bottle tucked away in your wine cellar or you picked up a favourite, tonight is the night to Open That EPIC Wineries Bottle! If you need some inspiration, might we suggest:

2020 ENCHANTÉ, Rosé Sparkling from Oxley Estate Winery – start the night off with bubbles. This wine will make you dance!

2021 BARREL FERMENTED CHARDONNAY from Cooper’s Hawk Vineyards – a perfect pairing for chicken or perhaps a seafood pasta. Good wine should also be shared along with a good meal!

LOLA CABERNET FRANC ROSE from Pelee Island Winery – any occasion is the perfect occasion for LOLA! If you close your eyes you can imagine the warm lake breeze and escape to your own island getaway (in your mind)

2020 CABERNET SAUVINGNON from Muscedere Vineyards – another award winner on our list. Enjoy this bottle with good friends, great memories and delicious food.

Barrels Bottles & Brews

If wine is not your style maybe a bottle of beer might be what you need! Head out on the Barrels Bottles and Brews Trail and pick up some local brews to open up and raise a glass with! Purchase a Flight Log and taste your way through 11 craft breweries and 2 distilleries celebrating the birthplace of Canadian whisky, award winning vodkas, and craft breweries featuring some of the finest ales, lagers, stouts and more!

LIMTED EDITION WINTER ALE from Walkerville Brewery – while warm sunny days may be just ahead, winter isn’t over quite yet! Pick up a 4 pack of this smooth drinking and indulgent treat and you’ll be warm & cozy in no time!

J.P. WISER’S 18 YEAR OLD CANADIAN WHISKY – if you’ve been saving this special bottle for a special day. Open That Bottle Night seems to us to be the perfect night to crack it open and share it!

RIVER’S END PREMIUM GIN from Wolfhead Distillery – mix up something special with the special people in your life and open that bottle of gin from Wolfhead Distillery. Whether is your first sip or you familiar with the tasty spirit tonight is the night to cheers to this award-winning bottle.

The Little Cider Co.

Looking to try something a little bit different? Maybe cider is more you style. Stop by The Little Cider Company in Harrow and try the All 4 One or the Harrow Blue Cider, a semi-sweet blueberry apple hard cider with fruity tones and a delicious carbonated taste! Open a bottle of the All 4 One for a fresh blend of all of our their apples for a crisp dry cider with a beer-like taste.

Why keep opening bottles to a night time activity? Start your morning off by opening a bottle of some local sweet treats!

MAPLE SYRUP from Ruscom Maple Products – not just for pancakes! Open a bottle of 100% pure Ontario Grade A Maple Syrup straight from Essex County and reminisce of cozy mornings, a warm fire and your favourite family members.

HONEY from Sun Parlour Honey – for the sweetest people in your life, open a bottle of this natural sweetener! Sun Parlour honey offers white liquid honey, buckwheat honey, white creamed honey, comb honey and more!

Need that bottle to kick things up a notch? From cold brew to roast, Windsor Essex has a bottle of perfection waiting for you!

ICED COFFEE or LEMONADE from Anchor Coffee House – not your average bottle and not your average taste. Pick up a 1/2 gallon of brewed iced coffee, delicious black poured over ice or with milk and sugar. Don’t need coffee to wake up in the morning? How about a taste of summer with a bottle of homemade classic or blueberry lemonade!

COLD BREW from CHANCE Coffee – for a refreshing pick me up, pop open a bottle of cold brew from Chance Coffee.
