The Artists of Colour
Formed in 2008, The Artists of Colour has become a positive voice through art forms by artists of colour within the Canadian Diaspora. The Artists of Colour is a group comprised of artists whose mandate is to speak through the visual, written, and oral language of art. It is their desire to showcase the works of black artists along with other artists of diverse backgrounds. Their mandate is to showcase and to bring awareness of the artistic expressions of this hidden and notable talent. In addition, they wish to teach and to encourage novice artists to launch into the professional art world so their creative talents can be seen and appreciated.
Since 2008, The Artists of Colour has held their annual art exhibition at Mackenzie Hall Cultural Centre and Common Ground Gallery. This show represents the culturally diverse assemblage of individual artists who have combined their collective talents to tell the world that creativity transcends all individual differences. It has become an annually anticipated art show that not only invites guests to view or purchase great artwork, but also offers free entertainment and educational sessions for visitor participation. Guided school and group tours of the exhibition are also provided upon request. This exhibit has encouraged and showcased the works of some of Ontario and of Michiganβs finest aspirants. It has given evidence of the unifying bond art has on all ethnicities as they tell their stories.
