Wednesday September 30th is National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. During this time it is important to recognize the country’s Indigenous heritage, culture, traditions, customs and language. Use the following guide to discover attractions, points of interest and gatherings in our region.
While it is a well-traveled land, we would like to respectfully acknowledge that the land on which we gather today is the traditional territory of the Three Fires Confederacy of First Nations, comprised of the Ojibwe, the Odawa, and the Potawatomi Peoples. Art Windsor-Essex partnered with the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board on an artwork display featuring butterflies created by students in Windsor-Essex. Butterflies, or memengwaa in Ojibwe, symbolize transformation, growth, and resilience. In this student art exhibition, they represent the ongoing journey of reconciliation, a process of learning, reflection, understanding, and positive change.Β

Together as a community we are on this journey of reconciliation. The truths of families and survivors of Canadian residential schools have left permanent scars on communities and our nation. In the spirit of healing and reconciliation, we will gather by the gazebo in Kingβs Navy Yard Park Saturday, September 26, 2026. Join us and Ska:na Family Learning Centre to learn more about Indigenous culture, and watch demonstrations of dancing, drumming and storytelling.Β
