Windsor to Host Prestigious World Aquatics Diving World Cup in 2025
Windsor has been selected as the Canadian host city for the highly anticipated 2025 World Aquatics Diving World Cup presented by Speedo. The competition will take place from April 10 to 13, 2025, at the state-of-the-art Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre presented by WFCU Credit Union.
Originally slated to host the 2025 Canada Cup of Diving, a World Aquatics-recognized event, Windsor eagerly rose to the challenge when uncertainties emerged regarding the reopening of Montreal’s Olympic Park Sports Centre, the originally planned venue for 2025. With the support of all event partners, Windsor seized the opportunity to elevate the Canada Cup of Diving to World Cup status, solidifying its role as the host city for 2025. Windsor continues to hold the hosting rights to the Canada Cup of Diving in 2026.
The World Aquatics Diving World Cup is one of the sport’s most prestigious competitions, surpassed only by the World Championships and the Olympic Games. This event marks Windsor’s return to the global diving stage, hosting its first major international diving competition since the FINA Diving World Series from 2014 to 2017, further solidifying its reputation as a premier hub for elite aquatic sports.
The World Cup will gather the 15+ of the world’s top diving nations, including China, Great Britain, Japan, Australia, the United States, and Canada. Participation is reserved for athletes who meet stringent qualification standards, guaranteeing an exceptional level of competition. Spectators will have the rare opportunity to witness performances by Olympic medalists, world champions, and rising stars who represent the future of international diving.
“The World Aquatics Diving World Cup coming to Windsor is a monumental achievement for our city,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “Hosting this prestigious event not only solidifies Windsor’s status as a world-class sports tourism destination, but it also supports ongoing revitalization efforts to Strengthen the Core in downtown Windsor by bringing vibrant energy, renewed interest, and incredible spin-off investments to our community. This competition attracts the world’s top athletes to our city and the surrounding region, inspiring residents of all ages and fueling economic growth while delivering great entertainment. Windsor’s investment in top-tier facilities and partnerships with organizations like Diving Plongeon Canada demonstrates the City’s continued commitment to excellence and our readiness to seize opportunities for growth. We thank the organizers for continuing to invest in our community. As we prepare to welcome the world to Windsor once again in 2025 and 2026, we invite athletes, coaches, officials, and fans to experience everything our vibrant city has to offer. The world will be watching, and Windsor and Essex County are ready to shine.”
The Government of Ontario played a major role in facilitating this opportunity for the municipality through their support from the Ontario Sport Hosting program.
“Our government is proud to support the 2025 World Aquatics Diving World Cup through the Sport Hosting Program,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “Events like this not only position Ontario as a top-tier destination for tourism and international sports, but also provide a welcome boost to local economies. The World Cup is a fantastic opportunity to support high-performance athletic development, while highlighting Windsor’s outstanding Aquatic and Training Centre.”
“Having the World Aquatics Diving World Cup to our destination plays a crucial role in further developing the sport tourism portfolio within Windsor Essex. We would like to thank Diving Plongeon Canada for their longstanding partnership with the City of Windsor and Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island on choosing Windsor time and time again to bring their high-profile diving events, helping fill our downtown hotels and establishments with athletes, dignitaries and spectators alike” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island. “With a proud history of bringing tournaments here that have satisfied organizers, coaches, participants, and spectators alike, it is clear we go above and beyond in satisfying the needs of our visitors. In fact, annually we welcome tens of thousands of sport aficionados, with last year bringing in 13k+ overnight stays alone. Beyond the event itself, our region provides the accommodations, amenities, places of interest, and food and beverage which is so critical for delegates to experience during their downtime while in Windsor.”
Diving Canada looks forward to working with Windsor to organize this event.
“Building on the tremendous success of the Canadian Diving Trials held in Windsor last May, we have every confidence that the 2025 World Aquatics Diving World Cup will be an outstanding event, once again showcasing the city’s exceptional facility and hospitality on a global stage.” said Penny Joyce, Chief Operating Officer of Diving Canada.
The 2025 Diving World Cup promises to deliver thrilling competition, foster community pride, and solidify Windsor’s growing reputation as a hotbed for the sport of diving.
