Tourism Windsor Essex To Host On-The-Farm Free Fun During Open Farms Day: Harvest Edition This Saturday

TOURISM WINDSOR ESSEX WANTS YOU TO CELEBRATE OPEN FARMS DAY: HARVEST EDITION THIS SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 23rd

Tourism Windsor Essex Celebrates Real Farms, Real Food and Real People

Windsor, ON – Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island in partnership with the Essex County Federation of Agriculture presents Open Farms Day: Harvest Edition on Saturday September 23rd. Open Farms lets residents and visitors alike celebrate local farms, food, producers and more by exploring farms and on-the-farms experiences to learn more about what brings produce from farm to fork through our W.E. Heart Local program participants.

“Tourism Windsor Essex is excited to present the third edition of Open Farms Day, this time focusing on the abundant harvest season, in addition to highlighting the importance of supporting local and what brings our favourite farm fresh goods to tour table” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex. “The experiences available on Open Farms Day at each stop are not only family-friendly, but also give a glimpse into farm life, the importance of farming to our local economy, and make that learning fun.”

The ‘Harvest Edition’ if Open Farms Day celebrates the bounty of the county available during the harvest season at our road side stands and farmers’ markets. You can click www.weheartlocal.ca/openfarms now and register for your free digital pass that will guide you to the 9 experiences available this Saturday September 23rd at different W.E. Heart Local program partner locations. Experiences and partners include:

  • Carolinia Cider Co and The Fruit Wagon
    10am – 4pm. Apple tasting – both cider and fresh-market varieties. Plus enjoy the tractor and orchard equipment display & seasonal agricultural worker display.
  • Downtown Windsor Farmers Market
    9am – 2pm. Paint your very own mini-tractor! Marvelous Mosaics. Dried Beans Mosaic Workshop where you’ll learn about different types of beans and take home your one-of-a-kind creation. A tractor photo station will also provide the perfect backdrop to capture Instagram-worthy shots.
  • Essex County Federation of Agriculture @ Sauve’s Country Market
    10am – 4pm. Essex County agriculture trivia game.
  • Green Heart Farms
    12pm – 4pm: Farm tour and tour in the woods with family friendly scavenger hunt.
  • Hawksview Honey
    9am – 3pm: Bee Hive Box Painting. 11am & 2pm: Learn all about bees with the Talk & Tour.
  • The Little Cider Company
    12pm – 4pm: Witness apple pressing throughout the day and learn about the growing stages of apples and how the process of making hard cider.
  • Sauve’s Country Market
    10am – 4pm: Take a photo with farm equipment.  
  • Trimble Farms Cattle Company
    9am – 5pm: Photo ops with farm equipment and cattle feed education display.

If you check-in at least 5 of the experiences throughout the day you will have the chance to win a $250 W.E. Heart Local prize package. All experiences highlighted through the Open Farms Digital Pass will be free for registered users. It is the opportunity to taste, sip and learn through thoughtfully curated experiences and give a glimpse into farm life.

In addition to the fun and excitement on the farm during Open Farms Day, visitors are also encouraged to register for the W.E. Heart Local Digital Passport at weheartlocal.ca and the opportunity to explore Farm Fresh all season long with 70+ participating partners. The pass is free and requires no downloading, and gives perks the more users check in and support local, including free swag, exclusive offers, and free digital tasting passports at our craft breweries & distilleries.
