The Bike Kitchen
The Bike Kitchen is a non-profit social enterprise created to teach basic bike mechanics and bike repair in a welcoming safe space and provide safe, affordable transportation to the community. Got a problem with your bike? Come in and use The Bike Kitchen’s tools to fix your own bike with the instruction of one of their mechanics. Their volunteers learn mechanics by repairing and refurbishing donated bicycles to go back into the community. High school volunteers earn their required ‘volunteer hours’.
In addition, The Bike Kitchen provides cycle safety education for school groups, community groups, and individuals. They facilitate bike repair education through structured classes and weekly shop hours, provide use of tools and work stations, and offer advice and mentorship for learning to repair your own bike during DIY (Do-It-Yourself) time.
The Bike Kitchen strives to have a great selection of refurbished bikes available for sale. These have been completely tuned up and are in safe, working condition. Prices generally range between $100-$500 for an adult bike and $25-$60 for a kids bike. Shop refurbished bikes here. They accept donated bikes and bike parts of all shapes and sizes.
