River Canard

River Canard is Canada’s southernmost river. This shallow 12 km waterway is perfect for paddling, fishing and spotting wildlife.

The bowstring arch bridge over the River Canard was constructed in 1937, and is a rare and well-preserved example of a bridge design that was frequently used in the early 1900’s. The bridge deck is suspended from overhead dual arches and features vertical hangers and concrete railings.

In the In the War of 1812, River Canard was the site of the first engagement in Canada involving British and American forces in significant numbers. It was attacked by the Americans on July 16, 1812. The British fell back and the Americans abandoned the position the following day.
