Tourism Windsor Essex Launches ‘Follow the Flavours’ Culinary Discovery Trail

Explore the Cultural Diversity of Windsor Essex On the Tastiest Food Trail in All of Ontario

Windsor, ON – Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island has launched the tastiest trail in all of Ontario to celebrate the cultural diversity of our region through food: Follow the Flavours.

Follow the Flavours is a culinary discovery route highlighting 25 businesses of distinct cultural backgrounds across the region located at www.followtheflavours.ca developed in consultation with the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County (MCC), the Culinary Tourism Alliance, and through funding from the Government of Canada.

“What better way to learn about the cultural diversity of our region than by taste! Whether it’s dumplings or birria tacos or shawarma, there is a story behind each dish, and we encourage you to connect with friends and family over food, but also to engage with the local businesses as you order and learn their story and history” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island. “Windsor Essex is known as one of the most culturally-diverse regions in Canada, and we are excited to showcase the diversity in a unique way, in addition to highlighting small businesses and connect them with visitors and locals alike.”

Foodies and curious explorers can go to www.followtheflavours.ca today and register for their free digital pass to allow them to explore a world of new tastes, sensation and delights. The Follow the Flavours trail is a self-guided experience that will take users across Windsor and Essex County to restaurants that feature food that tells a story. Get lured in with mouth-watering options from Asian, Indian, Middle Eastern, Italian, German, African, Caribbean, and Mexican cuisines.

“The MCC is thrilled to have participated with Tourism Windsor-Essex Pelee Island in developing a multicultural tourism trail highlighting the best culinary experiences within the region. Ethnocultural communities across the region have spent decades celebrating culture and treasuring traditions for all to enjoy” said Daniel Beliciu, Director of Programs and Development for Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County. “This project not only provides the opportunity to showcase Windsor-Essex as one of the most diverse regions in Canada, but also provides an opportunity to attract more visitors to the region and help support local businesses.”

In addition to great tastes, users will also have the opportunity to win the more they explore the participating partners. Just check in at 3 or more participating partners each quarter for the chance to win 1-of-4 foodie experiences from a Follow the Flavours partner including cooking classes, group tastings and gourmet date nights.

Tourism stakeholders enjoyed a sneak peek of the Follow the Flavours trail at the 2023 Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island Annual General Meeting held yesterday with four partners including Cancunsito Mexican Cuisine, Eddy’s Mediterranean Bistro, Stelly’s Cuisine and Catering and Thai Palace Restaurant giving tastes of their culture to the 185 attending guests.
