Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island Invites Residents to Share Their Perspectives on Tourism
Residents Across Windsor Essex Invited to Share Their Perspectives on Tourism in the Place They Call Home
Windsor, ON – To better understand the perceptions, attitudes, and experiences of residents related to tourism, Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island is conducting a Resident Sentiment Survey.
Tourism plays an important role in Windsor, Essex County and Pelee Island by welcoming visitors, supporting local businesses and jobs, and showcasing the people, places, experiences, and communities that make the region distinctive. Tourism also welcomes approximately 5.17 million visitors annually, generates $816 million in visitor spending, and supports more than 11.2k jobs across the region. As tourism continues to evolve, Tourism Windsor Essex wants to better understand how residents feel about tourism in their communities, including its benefits, impacts, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
“Tourism is an important part of our region’s economy and contributes to the vibrancy of our communities, but it’s equally important that we understand how the people who live here feel about its impact,” said Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island and Invest WindsorEssex. “We’re excited to see the results of this survey and hear directly from residents across Windsor, Essex County and Pelee Island. Their feedback will provide valuable insight into where opportunities exist, and how we can continue to grow tourism in a way that benefits our visitors, our businesses and, most importantly, the communities we call home.”
The survey is being administered by Bannikin, an Ontario-based tourism consultancy specializing in tourism research, strategy, development, and communications.
Residents from across the region are encouraged to participate. The findings will provide Tourism Windsor Essex, its funders, and partners with a stronger understanding of resident perspectives and community priorities and will help inform how tourism is planned, developed, managed, and promoted in the years ahead.
The survey explores residents’ perspectives on topics such as the economic and community benefits of tourism, tourism’s influence on quality of life, potential pressures or challenges associated with visitation, opportunities for future tourism development, and residents’ priorities for the future of tourism in the region.
The primary data collection tool is an online questionnaire that will take 3-5 minutes, which is open now, Wednesday September 23rd, 2026, and closes on Monday November 9th, 2026 at 11:59pm.
Residents can complete the survey here: http://www.visitwindsoressex.com/survey.
Residents who complete the survey will also have the opportunity to enter a draw for a Regional staycation valued at $500, including an overnight stay, dining credits, and a bookable experience in the region. Full contest rules available at visitwindsoressex.com/survey.
