A SALUTE TO SIDNEY BECHET, JAZZ GIANT
“The first great saxophonist of jazz: a program of his original compositions and classic jazz masterpieces from the 1920’s to the 1950’s”
CHRIS TABACZYNSKI, saxophone and clarinet
ERIK McINTYRE, acoustic guitar
SHNNON WADE, string bass
MIKE KARLOFF, piano
Sidney Bechet was born in New Orleans and in the early 1920’s began a series of historic recordings that established him as jazz’ first sax virtuoso and an innovator equal to Louis Armstrong. His historic recordings for Blue Note, RCA Victor, Swing, France’s Disques Vogue and other labels remain as foundations of jazz music.
Still in his ’20s, Chris Tabaczynski has emerged as one of America’s top traditional jazz musicians, an expert on Bechet’s music. Shannon Wade, the bassist of The Hot Club of Detroit and Erik McIntyre on acoustic guitar are creative interpreters of classic jazz. Also featuring our ‘house pianist” Mike Karloff. You’ll enjoy a unique musical program by these superb jazz musicians.
