This is a very strong cast featuring actors that are both familiar with, and new to, The Bank Theatre stage. The diversity of actors is noticeable in the age range as well as those who are seasoned and those who are appearing on stage for the first time.
The play features course language and mature themes. Viewer discretion is advised.
It tells a story of how society has used mental health treatment as a way to make people conform. It teaches us how important it is to celebrate what makes each of unique and to continue to talk about mental health in open, honest and welcoming forum.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest was written in 1952 and features derogatory depictions of gender, race, sexuality and mental health that we know were wrong then, and we know are wrong now. The play is being presented in the original manner and dialogue as written in hopes that we see how important it is not to go back to those ways, to appreciate how far we’ve come, and to acknowledge how much further we need to go.
