SUMMARY:Ten Unsolved Mysteries About Bats
DESCRIPTION:Scientists have uncovered countless amazing facts about bats\, from the mechanics of how they fly to the physics of how they echolocate\, but each year new secrets are revealed\, and we learn more about what makes these creatures so enigmatic and beautiful. In this 40-minute presentation\, bat biologist and TV science expert Dan Riskin will reveal his ten favourite unanswered questions about bats. Dan will use photos\, videos\, sounds\, and stories to bring the biology of bats to life. This event is intended for people of all ages\, and will end (weather permitting) with a brief walk outside to search for bats using an ultrasonic bat detector. \nDan Riskin\, PhD\, is CTV’s Science and Technology Specialist\, and the former co-host of Daily Planet on Discovery. He has authored more than 25 scientific papers about bats\, specifically the biomechanics of how they move. Each week Dan publishes The Bat Signal\, a free newsletter featuring five quirky science stories and a trivia question. \nCost: Included in park admission

SUMMARY:Pedals and Passport
DESCRIPTION:Pedals and Passport is the signature event of the Metro 313 Cyclones – Major Taylor Detroit. This fun international event and historic path of the Underground Railroad focuses on scenic cycling just across the United States border in the country of Canada. \nWhen you travel from the Motor City of Detroit\, Michigan\, you will be treated to some fantastic and low elevation cycling as you venture into Canada’s most southern city of Windsor\, Ontario. Whether you take the Ambassador Bridge and be treated with a breathtaking city landscape of two countries or decide to drive through the tunnel underneath the Detroit River\, our Canadian friends will be ready to receive you. \nPedals and Passport has three route options that will take you through some of the historic cities that were originally part of the northern portion of the Underground Railroad. \nAll routes will start and end at Malden Park. From there\, the mostly flat and smooth terrain will take you southeast to the cities of Amherstburg\, Colchester\, and Kingsville\, Ontario\, with coastal views of the Detroit River\, windmill laden farms and wine vineyards\, and relaxing overlooks of Lake Erie. Make sure you have your PASSPORT or enhanced driver’s license to cross the border.
