Writing and Reading Local
Join us for a Reading & Writing Local afternoon at River Bookshop in Amherstburg. The event will feature two authors with recent novels set in southwestern Ontario, and will take place on Sunday, May 4th, at 2 p.m. The authors will discuss the considerations, challenges, and opportunities for setting books in southwestern Ontario. The event will help shine a light on the rich storytelling and narrative opportunities of the southwestern Ontario region. Reading & Writing Local is free and open to the public.
Renée D. Bondy taught in Women’s and Gender Studies at the University of Windsor, where she facilitated courses on queer activism, women and religion, and the history of women’s movements. Her writing has appeared in Herizons, Bitch, Bearings Online, and the Humber Literary Review. She is a graduate of the Humber School for Writers. [non]disclosure, her first novel, is published by Second Story Press of Toronto.
Kim Conklin is a writer, filmmaker, and co-host of All Write in Sin City, a regional book podcast. Kim’s work has appeared in journals, anthologies and film festivals. Recent publications include her debut novel, King of Hope (Palimpsest Press, October 2022), and This Will Only Take a Minute: 100 Canadian Flashes (Guernica Editions, November 2022), Dialectical Love, selected for film festivals on three continents in 2020-2022.
River Bookshop is situated in Amherstburg on the Detroit River, and the river is reflective of their location and ethos.
