The Comedic Production ART Comes to The Bank Theatre!

The Bank Theatre is pleased to present the comedy ART by Yasmina Reza, Directed by Katherine Albuquerque. The show hits the stage October 13-15 & October 20-22.
There are a lot of firsts in this show, the biggest being the Directorial debut of Katherine Albuquerque. Previously Katherine was Assistant Director in “A Christmas Story” which was directed by Corey Robertson. “One of my high school teachers recommended this play to me a number of years ago. It was a dark time in my adolescent life and I never forgot his kindness. It is dedicated to him,” said Katherine

Art is a comedy by Yasmina Reza and focuses on the relationship between 3 friends when one of them purchases a painting. Serge (Clinton Anderson) buys the painting and the reactions of his friends, Marc (Dean Valentino) and Yvan (Emma Truswell), is palpable. Marc’s response is quite volcanic; for him, Serge’s purchase of the painting threatens to wreck their friendship. Yvan tries to mediate the disaffection between Serge and Marc, often at the cost of directing Marc and Serge’s hostilities toward herself.

Katherine has also been the Treasurer on The Bank Theatre Board of Directors since 2018. “I have always had a passion for theatre and recently spent time in New York City going to Broadway and off Broadway shows. Being able to bring this production to The Bank Theatre stage is pretty important and amazing to me!” It is also Katherine’s first time to work with cast members Windsor actors Dean Valentino and Emma Truswell, though she has had the opportunity to get to know Clinton Anderson in “A Christmas Story.”

“The play actually calls for three men, but when we saw the chemistry between these seasoned actors, Dean, Emma and Clinton, we knew we had a winning cast! They haven’t disappointed and the audience will see and enjoy them in action,” said Albuquerque.

Another first is Assistant Director Paul Medeiros also learning the ropes of a production at The Bank Theatre. “It’s definitely an eye opener for me to see the commitment of these actors as well as the work behind the scenes preparing for the show, following another show so quickly. I am really having fun and enjoying the opportunity and looking forward to sharing this show with family and friends. ”

Katherine also noted that she is giving the local arts community a 10% break on the ticket price. “Leamington Arts Centre and The Bank Theatre members will receive $2 off the ticket price. The arts are vital to the well-being and quality of life for us humans. We are so fortunate to have two pillars of the community in The Bank Theatre and Leamington Arts Centre here in Leamington. Yes, one is visual, one is performing arts but the arts inspire people and they also encourage collaboration!”
Theatre Chair Corey Robertson is thrilled to see ART come to The Bank Theatre stage. “Katherine will do a great job with this show and its part of our mandate to teach and educate our members and volunteers. I’m honoured that I had a hand in helping Katherine get to this opportunity.”

The Bank Theatre is located at 10 Erie St. S., Leamington. Show dates and times are October 13, 14, 20, & 21 at 7:30 pm and October 15 & 22 at 2:30 pm.
