Community Display: Planting the Seeds for Truth & Reconciliation
Art Windsor-Essex partnered with the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board on a display of artworks made by students in Windsor-Essex. The hearts were coloured by students at WECDSCB. Displayed as blossoming flowers, the hearts represent our collective commitment to working together to achieve truth and reconciliation.
βPlanting the seeds for truth and reconciliationβΒ is a metaphor. It likens the work of healing and building better relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people to planting a garden, something that takes time, care, and effort. It honours the experiences of Indigenous Peoples, celebrates resilience and affirms a commitment that Every Child Matters.
Creating your own βheartβ offers a moment to reflect on the children lost and the families forever shattered by the legacy of Indian Residential Schools. This has prompted us to pause and reflect. By crafting and decorating your heart in a personal, mindful way, you are honouring the unique spirit of each child who passed away. It also presents an opportunity to reflect on why standing with Indigenous people in their ongoing struggle for justice is meaningful to you, allowing you to express that commitment through your own creation.
