Charlie Gabriel is the elder statesmen and Music Director of Preservation Hall Jazz Band. He has made many fans through his PHJB performances on major stages around the world, and with new recordings, including his Grammy Award nominated album “89.”
Charlie is the 4th generation of a prominent New Orleans musical family. After work as a teen with the legendary Eureka Brass Band Charlie moved to Detroit and became one of that city’s major jazz musicians for 50 years.
In 2009 Charlie returned to his roots to join PHJB. His authentic New Orleans clarinet style, soulful sax and funky joyful singing will transport you to The Big Easy.
Joining Charlie will be his former student. Detroit’s 24-year-old sax sensation Kasan Belgrave, recently toured the eastern US with Wynton Marsalis and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra including Orchestra Hall, Detroit.
