On Friday, August 4th at 6 p.m., the Amherstburg Freedom Museum will host our annual Emancipation Dinner & Dance celebration being held this year at the Hellenic Cultural Centre. This event recognizes the 189th anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery in Canada in 1834 and the federal recognition of Emancipation Day in Canada.
Join us for dinner and an evening of dancing, featuring special guests’ former professional basketball player Earl “The Twirl” Cureton who played professionally for the Philadelphia 76ers, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Clippers, Charlotte Hornets, Houston Rockets and the Toronto Raptors. We are also welcoming celebrated Detroit based Jazz/Blues Vocalist Renee King Jackson and her fabulous band, you won’t want to miss it!
This year’s theme is “Puttin’ On The Glitz”, guests are encouraged dress in their finest cocktail/semi-formal attire to complement the evening’s festivities. Dancing, silent auction, awards ceremony and presentation honoring the life and legacy of multi-talented athlete Fred Thomas, a pillar of the community.
